August Public Meeting: Tyler Jupp shares about Those who go down to the sea in ships
About this event
Witness the "adventure of a lifetime" by one of Jubilee Yacht Clubs very own, Captain Tyler Jupp as he recounts his summer sailing the frigid North Atlantic to Greenland aboard an old wooden boat with a green crew
The Crew: 9 students, majority freshman, from Maine Maritime Academy who were enthusiastic to learn basic seamanship while completing academic requirements. 6 experienced salty dogs who were motivated to pass on their love for the sea. This is a story about team building where age and gender give way to cooperative forces necessary for a voyage crossing the Arctic circle
The Boat: Built in 1921, Bowdoin is an 88 foot wooden schooner. Crafted in Maine, designed by William Hand, this diesel Aux. powered sailboat was created for high arctic exploration. Proved by withstanding 4 Arctic winters.
Teacher, 2nd Mate: Capt. Tyler Jupp is a life-long sailor who embodies the spirit of adventure and sailing which he generously passes on to all of us. His presentation reveals the art of team building through cooperation and personal connections.
